Işılay conducts research in the fields of environmental microbiology, extreme environmental biodiversity, and the microbiome-transcriptome relationship.

Işılay Çelik completed her primary, secondary, and high school education in Mersin. She received her bachelor's degree from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Istanbul Technical University and her master's degree from the Biotechnology Institute at Ankara University.

Işılay Çelik completed her master's degree at Ankara University Biotechnology Institute with a thesis titled "Determination of the thermal spring microbiome using environmental DNA metabarcoding." She is continuing her doctoral studies with research on the characterization of biofilm content developing on microplastics and the identification of potential pathogens. She is also conducting research on various other topics, including the molecular characterization of tardigrade species in Türkiye and the elucidation of the microbiome-transcriptome relationship within the context of omega-3 production.

Işılay Çelik works as the Head of the Evolutionary Genetics Laboratory and as an Innovation Specialist at the Agrigenomics Hub (AgriGx) Animal and Plant Genomics Research Innovation Center.

Other Projects

  • Characterization of Fish Fauna of Elazığ Province by DNA Barcoding
