Ayşegül's research focuses on identifying bird biodiversity in marine and terrestrial ecosystems, particularly in extreme habitats, using eDNA metabarcoding, determining dietary profiles, examining population dynamics, disease interactions, and their impact on ecosystems.

Ayşegül Er Gökçe completed her primary, secondary, and high school education in Ankara. She received her bachelor's degree from Ankara University, Department of Biology, and her master's degree from Ankara University, Institute of Science, Department of Aquaculture.

Ayşegül Er Gökçe completed her master's degree at Ankara University, Institute of Science, Department of Fisheries, with her thesis titled "Biodiversity Determination in Uyuz Lake using Environmental DNA: Migratory Bird Model". She is still continuing her research on identifying aquatic and water-bound bird species through observation using eDNA metabarcoding and creating an Aves barcode database.

Ayşegül Er Gökçe is pursuing her doctoral studies at Ankara University Biotechnology Institute with her thesis titled "Investigation of Antarctic Food Webs and Lake Ecosystems Using eDNA Metabarcoding Method" . Within this scope, she has determined the dietary profiles of different penguin, seal, and bird species, which are apex predator species living on the Antarctic Peninsula. She has also completed macro and micro biodiversity assessment studies from 10 different lakes and one stream system in this extreme environment, and is continuing her metagenomics studies on the identification of functional genes in this environment. In addition to these studies, Ayşegül Er Gökçe conducts omics studies on various organisms and in different fields.

Ayşegül Er Gökçe works as a researcher in the Evolutionary Genetics Laboratory and as the R&D, Quality and Administrative Affairs Manager at the AgriGenomics Hub (AgriGx) Animal and Plant Genomics Research Innovation Center.
